  • Katerra Founded as Materials Supplier

    Michael Marks, Fritz Wolff and Jim Davidson co-found Katerra Inc.

    Katerra was founded on the insight that applying systems approaches to building development, design, and construction would remove unnecessary time and costs and a vision of a future where efficiency wouldn't have to come at the expense of quality or sustainability.

    The goal: Better, faster and cheaper buildings, for everyone. 

  • General Contracting Services Added

    Katerra grows quickly and expands its core offerings to include in-house GC services.

     

  • 2016

  • Design Services Added

    Katerra Design Services are founded in Seattle, Washington by Craig Curtis, Peter Wolff and Will Caramella. Work begins on Katerra designed and optimized building systems, leveraging Katerra's unique vertically integrated business model to deliver unprecedented time and cost efficiency to Katerra projects. 

  • Dangoo Lighting Acquired

    Shanghai Dangoo Electronics, Ltd specializes in lighting design and integrated LED technology, the merger enhances Katerra's ability to develop and bring to market new and innovative lighting products at scale. 

  • First Project Breaks Ground

    Katerra breaks ground on our first construction project, Annadel II, providing materials and general contracting for the 120-unit, garden style apartment development. The property was design by BAR Architects is slated to be complete in early 2018.

  • 2017

  • Phoenix Factory Begins Production

    The Phoenix Factory comes online and produces wall assemblies for Pine Valley Ranch II in early 2017, by April the factory is fully functional.

  • United Renovations Acquired

    United Renovations, a leader in multifamily renovations, integrates with Katerra to combine resources, logistics, and technology. Katerra Renovations is proud deliver best-in-class renovations services to its customers and provide time and schedule savings on building projects needed at any stage in a building's lifecycle. 

  • Katerra Technology Office Opens in Pune, India

    Katerra opens a technology hub office in Pune, India. 

  • Successful CLT Shake Test

    Katerra successfully completes full scale validation of a new cross-laminated timber seismic shear wall system on the world’s largest outdoor shake table at the University of California San Diego. 

  • LinkedIn Top Company

    Katerra named to LinkedIn Top Companies | Startups: Top 50 Industry Disruptors.

  • Creation of Design Consortium

    The design consortium is made up of individuals from four award-winning design firms that will collaborate closely with Katerra, regularly providing feedback as the company develops and expands its portfolio of products and design tools.

  • Spokane CLT Factory Breaks Ground

    Katerra breaks ground on a 250K square foot mass timber manufacturing facility that will scale the production of CLT in the U.S. and ease adoption of the material across the North American construction industry.

  • 2018

  • Katerra Receives $865M Funding

    Katerra announced a $865 million, Series D funding round led by the SoftBank Vision Fund. The financing will be used to fund Katerra’s continued manufacturing expansion and for further investment in its R&D efforts. 

  • Fields joins Katerra Team

    Fields will apply Katerra’s technologies to better serve its roster of real estate developer clients along the East Coast.

  • MGA Joins Katerra Team

    This new partnership will bring together technology, manufacturing, and design excellence to offer more sustainable, cost effective, and elegant architecture options to North American and global markets. 

  • LAS joins Katerra

    The partnership between Lord Aeck Sargent and Katerra will help Katerra expand its design expertise, capability, and U.S. footprint, while sharpening its focus on innovation across the spectrum of architecture, landscape architecture, planning, preservation, and interiors. 

  • Katerra Merges With KEF Infra

    KEF, an offsite manufacturing technology specialist, merges with Katerra to bring world-class pre-cast concrete technologies to the U.S. market, greatly expanding design and materials options for U.S. clients. At the same time, the merger will result in a more robust global supply chain and elevated manufacturing processes in existing KEF markets.
