What do you do as a Construction Materials Director at Katerra?

As Construction Materials Director, I oversee the end-to-end process of ordering, staging, receiving, and auditing material for Katerra’s new build projects. Our team works closely with other Katerra departments, including the Factory, Sourcing, Planning, Coordinators, Buyers, and Logistics, with the goal to create less work for the job site team. Specifically, we manage the materials for our job sites so that the job team can focus on construction and meeting our clients’ demands with deadlines. There is a lot of trouble shooting we do currently, but every day is a new day with chances to improve our processes and we work closely with these other departments to do so.

Our team strives to ensure all material deliveries arrive to the job sites with our ‘just-in-time’ delivery approach. Katerra gains many benefits from this approach, including the reduction of theft, weather damage, and cluttering of work areas.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is when I can talk to the job team and hear about their successes. When they’re successful, we’re successful. That means materials arrive on time, schedules stay aligned, and deadlines are met. Being a part of the overall success of Katerra keeps me motivated and proud to be a part of this team. We have a great group of people here at Katerra who I enjoy working with and continue to learn from them.

What originally attracted you to Katerra?

I was attracted to Katerra for the opportunity to change an industry. Unlike other companies whose business models are well established, we are a very young company working with a blank piece of paper to create our new model. It’s going to be completely different. It is exciting to be a part of the process to help make Katerra successful.
